Learning Objectives

1. Describe Integrated Primary Care (IPC), its rationale, and current research outlining its effectiveness (worldwide and within BC).


2. Describe the role of a psychologist within the primary care team and how it is distinct from a traditional psychological role.


3. Utilizing information from the previous definitions as context, review commonly used assessments in Primary Care. This will include psychometric measures, non-psychometric semi-structured interviews, and may include a case example (time-permitting).

Simon Elterman

Dr. Simon Elterman is a registered psychologist who has years of training and experience in primary care behavioural health. This includes graduate training in Oregon and Washington as well as years of experience on the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver in Primary Care Behavioural Health. He is one of the co-authors of the PCPsych proposal, which is the current proposal in government to fund higher-paying psychology positions in Primary Care Networks in BC. He is a member of the Advocacy Committee and Board of Directors of BCPA.
