Dr. Martin Zakrzewski Psy.D., R.Psych. received his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Rutgers University and went on to work for several years as a mental health specialist in the Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry units at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Pacific University in Oregon, with an emphasis in neuropsychology. He completed his internship in clinical neuropsychology at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont, with an emphasis on acquired brain injury assessment and rehabilitation, hospital-wide neuropsychological assessment and consultation, and medical psychology.
Dr. Zakrzewski immigrated to Canada in 2000 to complete a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology within the Neuropsychiatry Program at Riverview Hospital, subsequently transitioning to a staff neuropsychologist position. He later transitioned to the Geriatric Psychiatry program while serving as the Director of Training for the CPA-accredited internship program based out of Riverview Hospital. With the closure of Riverview, Dr. Zakrzewski transitioned to a staff neuropsychologist position within the Tertiary Mental Health programs at Vancouver General Hospital. He also provided contracted neuropsychological assessments for the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital. He was recruited into the position of Director of Psychology, BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services, in April of 2016, and currently oversees psychological services delivery across the agency, including the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital, several Regional Forensic Clinics, Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addictions, and Correctional Health Services. He has served on the Board of Directors of the BC Psychological Association, as well as on the Advocacy Committee, since February of 2017.
