In this workshop, you will learn what the menopause transition is and the important biological, social and psychological factors that play a role in this stage of a woman's reproductive timeline. You will learn what common symptoms of menopause are and the treatments that exist, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a non-pharmacological treatment option.

The CBT-based literature for menopause-related symptoms will be reviewed and instruction on how to implement CBT for a few common symptoms of menopause, including vasomotor symptoms and depression, will take place. The workshop will be interactive, especially the last part, as cognitive and behavioural strategies are learned and discussed with examples so that you can start working with clients/patients in your practice, right away, using these tools.

Learning Objectives:

- To understand what the menopause transition is, the most common symptoms associated with menopause, and how they are uniquely experienced in each woman using the biopsychosocial model.

- To understand the treatments that exist for menopause symptoms including cognitive behavioural treatment (CBT) as a non-pharmacological treatment option.

- To understand the cognitive behavioural treatment (CBT) model broadly, how it is applied to common menopause symptoms, and the evidence-base for each symptom using CBT.

- To understand how to treat common menopause symptoms using CBT, with a focus on a few common symptoms (e.g., vasomotor symptoms, depression).
